Proctored Final Instructions

All coursework is done from home and not proctored; however, to comply with regional accreditation rules, which your college requires for transfer, courses that go towards a two or four year degree must have a proctored final exam. This is easily done from any where in the world.

The final can be taken at any college testing center, Sylvan Learning Center or by our one approved online proctor.  Most students use the online proctor as it is convenient from any location.

When you are done with your coursework, email support.  Let us know if you want to use the online proctor, and we will get you connected.

If you don't want to use the online proctor, and want to go to a local college testing center or Sylvan Learning Center, then first check to see if we have already approved a testing center near you by going to our testing center locator. This database only contains locations where we have had previous students take finals. These locations are already preapproved, so if you find a location in this database it saves time.

If you can't find a testing center in our testing center locator, then either use the online proctor or find a local college testing center or Sylvan Learning Center. We will get it approved and placed in our database.

One of these options below will help you plan your proctored final.

  1. Use our approved online proctor. We have an approved online proctor service that students can use if they have a web camera with their computer. This can be a laptop with a built in camera or a desktop with a web cam. This service charges $60 for exam sessions, and the student is responsible for this fee.

  2. Take the final at your home college, or locate a college near you. Go to your nearest (or home) college's testing center. They may have a large testing center, or they may proctor exams at the assessment office. If the college testing center charges a proctoring fee, the student is responsible for this fee.  If you are an international student see the list of International testing locations below, or plan to use the online proctor.

  3. See if you can find a college testing center near you in the University of Maryland's list of alternative college testing centers. Scroll down a bit, and find your state. Make sure you find one which says 'CBT', as our most of our finals are computer-based tests. If there is a college on the list near you that says 'PBT', call them and see if they now are able to proctor computer-based tests. (Note: Many of the upper level math classes are paper based exams. Some of these courses include, but are not limited to Abstract Algebra, Number Theory, Real Analysis, and Methods of Proof. Please call the office if need to know about a specific course.) If the college testing center charges a proctoring fee, the student is responsible for this fee.

  4. See if you can find a college testing center near you in the NCTA list. If there is a college on the list near you that only says paper based test, call them and see if they now are able to proctor computer-based tests. Note: Many of the upper level math classes are paper based exams. Some of these courses include, but are not limited to Abstract Algebra and Methods of Proof. Please call the office if need to know about a specific course. If the college testing center charges a proctoring fee, the student is responsible for this fee.

  5. Take the final at a Sylvan Learning Center. ( sylvanlearning.com )
Insert your zip code into the Sylvan Learning's web site and it will find three locations nearest your home. Sylvan's do charge a fee for their testing service and testing fees vary per location, so call a couple of locations and ask for pricing ahead of time. Some charge a flat fee of $20, while others charge $50 per hour. Therefore, it is important to determine ahead of time if you agree with their fee.
When you have decided on a testing location, please send support@westcottcourses.com the following information, and we will get the new location approved and set up:

Name of college testing center or Sylvan Learning center
Name of proctor, phone, email address, zip code
Web site's URL if possible.

Note:  To be approved,  new testing centers must meet our standard uniform rules for proctoring. Most college testing centers and Sylvan Learning centers meet these standards.

Note: Steps 1 - 5 are the only approved ways students can take the proctored final. Students may not take the proctored final with a teacher, at a library, at their work, etc.

Students outside the United States:

Most international students use the online proctor. Just make sure you have a camera with your computer if you want to use the online proctor. You may also see if we have an approved International testing site near you.

Military personnel:

Most bases have an education center who will proctor exams, so military personnel can take the proctored final on most any base around the world.
