Transferring Credits

Transferring Credits Is Easy

Our partner university is University of Massachusetts Global (UMass Global), which has 25 campuses throughout California and Washington, and is part of the University of Massachusetts system. UMass Global is regionally accredited by the WSCUC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Regional accreditation is the highest form of accreditation a university can have, and your college will most likely require it for transfer credits.

When you are finished with the course(s), you will order a transcript directly from UMass Global’s records office and have it sent to your college.

Will My College Accept Transfer Credits From UMass Global?

Your college will verify three important criteria when determining if they will accept a transcript from an outside college:

  1. Are the transfer credits coming from a regionally accredited university?
Yes. UMass Global is regionally accredited by the WSCUC.
View a full list of UMass Global's accreditations.

  2. Are academic semester credits awarded?
Yes. UMass Global grants academic semester credits for our courses.

  3. Does the course description meet your college's requirements?
Yes. We have written our courses to meet or exceed all U.S. college curriculum standards. This ensures our courses will most likely be approved by all other colleges, which enables students to transfer credits back to their home university.

How Does Transferring Credits Work?

Westcott Courses provides the course instructor and the online content. Students enroll with Westcott Courses, complete their coursework at their own pace, and then we send the student’s grade to UMass Global. Students then order an official transcript from UMass Global’s records office and have it sent to their home and/or their school. The transcript provides transferable academic semester credits.

Since Westcott Courses is the course instructor and content provider, we do not appear on the transcript. The transcript from UMass Global will show our course the same way it would show a traditional class taken on their campus.

Taking a course through Westcott Courses does not require being enrolled at UMass Global. Anyone can receive university credits through UMass Global via this program.

Pre-Approval From Your College

If you would like to request pre-approval for a specific course from your college, you can find the exact script that you can send to your counselor to ask for the pre-approval on the course page under the tab "Transcript & Pre-approval''. (Go to the specific course page. You will find the pre-approval script at the bottom of the tab.) The link provided in the script has everything your counselor or registrar's office needs for pre-approval. Your transcript is coming from UMass Global and not Westcott Courses, so make sure you ask for approval for the course through UMass Global.

Here is an example of the script you can send for pre-approval:
